My first encounter with Agartha/Hollow Earth was in 2012 and AFAICT utterly disconnected from all of this trend.

The Secret World, later Secret World Legends, is/was an urban fantasy/horror MMO in which the masquerade is breaking down under widespread attack from Lovecraftian horrors known as The Filth, and being opposed by a wave of spontaneous superheroes (player characters) known as The Bees (and drafted by three competing evil conspiracies). The source of power for the Bees is the spirit of Gaia, which is principally localized in the enormous honey-forest hollow-earth demiplane Agartha. Time doesn't pass there and it sends its trees up into the world in various spots to let you fast-travel from New York to Johannesburg to Tokyo. It talks to you in text messages, poorly; the tagline it starts with is "Our wisdom flows so sweet: taste and see."

It was a frigging fantastic game.
